Colin Bergeron, Research Associate in the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta (and enthusiastic champion in the ALIDP Green Roof Working Group) was recently interviewed by Radio Canada Alberta. You can see some shots of the Stantec and John Janzen Nature Centre green roofs in the video. Watch it here (in French) https://www.facebook.com/icialberta/videos/1602048726511560/

There's an accompanying article on the benefits of green roofs at https://ici.radio-canada.ca/nouvelle/1101799/avantages-toits-verts-alberta-ville-urbain

This media attention celebrates the publication of research led by Bergeron into the characterization of beetle and spider assemblages on green roofs in Edmonton compared to ground level. This research demonstrates the potential for prairie and grassland habitats to establish on green roofs, providing urban refugia and intriguing possibilities for the use of green roofs to achieve conservation and biodiversity objectives.
